In high school, I thought of peer editing in a totally different way than I do now. Before this course, I would have just marked up small spelling or grammatical errors, now I know that this method isn’t really that beneficial to my peer’s paper. It is important to focus on the global revisions that need to be made on my peer’s paper. I attached a copy of Ruddy’s paper that I peer edited down below, and it shows how I pointed out larger concerns. When editing I think it’s important to find their thesis and if there isn’t one help them brainstorm ideas about what it may be. Also, topic sentences and transitions are really important and I like to make sure they are staying on track with their paragraphs. To add, I also point out places that need more support from sources or places where I think it’d be appropriate to share their own ideas about the discussion happening. There are a lot of ways that peer editing can help a person’s paper and I think it has been very beneficial to me and others throughout this course.
